5-Meo-DMT Preparation & Integration

When the ceremony is over, but the journey has just begun.

For many people, the most challenging part of working with 5-MeO-DMT isn't the ceremony itself. It's the days, weeks, and months that follow. You may be questioning what happened, feeling fundamentally changed, struggling to understand your experience, or wondering if what you're experiencing is normal.

While these experiences can feel deeply unsettling, they are often a natural part of the arc of integration.

Unlike most psychedelic experiences, the arc of integration following 5-MeO-DMT often extends far beyond the ceremony itself. While the medicine may be active for less than an hour, the psychological, emotional, and existential shifts can continue unfolding for months or even years. The ceremony begins the moment you seriously consider this work and continues through the ongoing arc of integration that follows.

Whether you're trying to understand a recent experience, preparing for an upcoming ceremony, or seeking to deepen insights from work you've already done, you don't have to navigate it alone. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you make contact with what is unfolding, increase your capacity to meet it with curiosity rather than fear, and embody the insights that emerge throughout the arc of integration.

The ceremony is not the destination.

The ceremony marks the beginning of the arc of integration.

Why 5-MeO Is Different

Many people don't find this page until after they have already worked with 5-MeO-DMT. If that's you, welcome. You are not too late. The arc of integration is still unfolding, and whatever has brought you here deserves care, curiosity, and thoughtful support rather than judgment.

One of the most common misconceptions about 5-MeO-DMT is that it is simply a more powerful psychedelic experience. While it shares similarities with other psychedelic medicines, 5-MeO occupies its own territory and calls for a different kind of understanding.

What distinguishes 5-MeO is not simply its intensity, but the nature of the experience itself. Many people encounter a profound dissolution of their ordinary sense of self, and for some, even the familiar distinction between subject and object falls away. Experiences of this depth are impossible to fully understand until they have been lived. Whether or not you felt fully prepared, there are aspects of this journey that simply cannot be known ahead of time.

The medicine also creates a unique opportunity for psychological and emotional release. During ceremony, a wide range of human experience may arise while awareness is profoundly altered. Without an understanding of how these experiences can continue unfolding, it is easy to mistake a normal part of the arc of integration for something that has gone wrong.

This is why I think of 5-MeO as a journey rather than a single event. The ceremony is one part of that journey. The goal is not simply to have a profound experience, but to create the conditions for that experience to become a meaningful and embodied part of your life. Whether you are preparing for your first ceremony or seeking support months or years afterward, the arc of integration offers ongoing opportunities for healing, growth, and transformation.

After Your Journey

For many people, the ceremony itself is only the beginning. The days, weeks, and months that follow can bring unexpected challenges alongside profound moments of insight and connection. You may find yourself questioning what happened, wondering if you're still the same person, feeling like the world doesn't seem quite real, experiencing waves of emotion that seem to come from nowhere, questioning long-held beliefs or your spiritual orientation, or wondering whether life can ever return to what it was before.

What you're experiencing may feel frightening, confusing, or completely unlike anything you've ever known. While every journey is unique, much of what emerges after 5-MeO is a natural part of the arc of integration.

One of the first things many people need isn't an explanation of their experience. They need to know that what they're experiencing is often a normal response to an extraordinary experience.

My first priority is not to interpret what happened. It is to help you settle into what is happening now.

Together, we'll slow things down. We'll notice what is happening in your body. We'll become curious about your present moment experience. We'll stay with what is unfolding, creating space for your nervous system to settle before rushing to conclusions or searching for answers. As your capacity grows, fear often begins to soften, not because every question has been answered, but because the future no longer feels quite so unmanageable.

As the immediate intensity begins to settle, our work naturally shifts toward integration. We explore what your experience may be inviting, how it relates to your life, your relationships, and the ways you've learned to move through the world. Sometimes unresolved trauma asks for attention. Sometimes deeply held assumptions begin to change. Sometimes there is clarity. Sometimes there is mystery. There is no single path through the arc of integration, and no interpretation that can be imposed from the outside. My role is not to tell you what your experience means, but to walk alongside you as your own understanding begins to emerge.

My hope is that you leave our first conversation with a greater sense of steadiness, less fear that something has gone irreparably wrong, and the reassurance that you don't have to navigate the arc of integration alone.

Before Your Journey

Preparation begins long before the ceremony itself. We begin with an honest conversation about why you are considering 5-MeO-DMT and whether this is the right step for you at this point in your life.

Together, we'll explore what is calling you toward this work. We'll become curious about your suffering, the patterns that have shaped your life, the parts of yourself that are asking for attention, and the changes you hope to embody beyond the ceremony itself. The goal is not simply to prepare for an experience, but to begin the journey of transformation that the experience may invite.

We'll also explore whether this is the right time. While there is never a perfect moment for profound transformation, there are seasons of life that provide a stronger foundation than others. Significant family responsibilities, demanding work commitments, relationship instability, or acute crisis don't necessarily mean 5-MeO-DMT is the wrong path, but they may influence when and how you choose to engage with this work.

Preparation also includes understanding the unique territory of 5-MeO-DMT. We'll discuss what makes this medicine distinct, what questions to ask when choosing a facilitator, and how to prepare for the wide range of experiences that may emerge. No amount of preparation can tell you exactly what will happen. The purpose of preparation is not to remove uncertainty, but to help you meet whatever unfolds with greater awareness, intention, and capacity.

Preparation is also an opportunity to consider how you are approaching this work. More than any particular practice or belief, I encourage people to approach 5-MeO-DMT with humility, curiosity, and reverence for the mystery. Reverence is not about having the "right" spiritual practice or believing certain things. Instead, reverence recognizes that this journey may touch something profoundly meaningful, and that some aspects of the experience cannot be fully understood until they have been lived.

My hope is that you begin your journey with a thoughtful foundation, an openness to whatever unfolds, and the understanding that the ceremony is not the destination. The ceremony marks the beginning of the arc of integration.

I am not here to tell you what your experience means.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my experience was frightening?

Fear, confusion, profound grief, overwhelming love, experiences of death, encounters with seemingly terrifying imagery, or the feeling that reality itself has changed can all arise within the arc of integration. While every experience is unique, these experiences do not automatically mean that something has gone wrong. Together, we'll slow things down, normalize what can be normalized, and thoughtfully explore what is emerging without rushing to conclusions or imposing meaning.

My ceremony was months or even years ago. Can integration still be helpful?

Absolutely. The arc of integration doesn't follow a schedule. Many people reach out weeks, months, or even years after a ceremony because something has shifted in their lives or because they are ready to engage with the experience in a new way. Integration is not about revisiting the past. It is about deepening your relationship with an experience that may still be unfolding.

Do I need preparation before a 5-MeO-DMT ceremony?

Preparation is never about trying to predict or control the experience. Rather, preparation creates space to explore why you are drawn to this work, whether this is the right time in your life, and how to approach the journey with greater awareness, humility, and reverence for the mystery. Even experienced psychonauts often find that 5-MeO-DMT asks something fundamentally different than other psychedelic medicines.

I've worked with many other psychedelic medicines, including psilocybin, LSD, ayahuasca, and N,N-DMT. Do I really need different preparation for 5-MeO-DMT?

Previous experience with other psychedelic medicines is valuable and often provides a strong foundation. At the same time, 5-MeO-DMT occupies its own unique territory.

I sometimes compare it to climbing. Someone who has spent years hiking mountains has developed important skills that will absolutely serve them well. But preparing for Mount Everest requires a different level of planning, understanding, and respect for the terrain. The experience you've gained doesn't become irrelevant. It simply doesn't eliminate the need to prepare for a fundamentally different journey.

Preparation for 5-MeO-DMT is much the same. The goal isn't to start over. It's to understand the unique characteristics of this medicine and approach the journey with the awareness, humility, and reverence it deserves.

If I begin working with you, does that mean I have to stop seeing my therapist or facilitator?

Not at all. In most cases, I encourage people to continue working with the therapists, facilitators, physicians, and other professionals who are already supporting them. My role is not to replace those relationships, but to complement them. When appropriate, I'm happy to collaborate with your existing support team to help create continuity of care throughout the arc of integration.

Do we have to meet in person?

I work with clients both in person and remotely. Whether we meet virtually or face-to-face, the intention remains the same: to provide a grounded, relational space where you can safely explore and integrate your experience.
